DreamWorks produced the original "Shrek" film in 2001. It challenged the classic happy ending of most fairytales where the beautiful princess usually marries a handsome hero after he overcomes a range of difficulties. Instead, the princess in "Shrek" does not turn into a beauty but another monster, yet her story still has a happy ending.

The second and third "Shrek" sequels continued the adventure of the couples and their friends.
Shrek and his friends will return to screens in North America on May 21.
