Ministry of Health Press Release (June 2) on SARS

The Press Office under the Ministry of Health published Monday afternoon a press release on the latest SARS situation on the Chinese mainland. On June 2, 4 provinces reported new suspected SARS cases, and the remaining 27 provinces reported no new case.

From 10:00 am June 1 to 10:00 am June 2, China reported no new diagnosed case, 64 patients recovered and 2 deaths.

Inner Mongolia reported 1 patient recovered and 1 death.

Zhejiang reported 1 death.

Patients who had recovered and been discharged from hospital included 33 from Beijing, 15 from Tianjin, 4 from Hebei, 3 from Shanxi, 1 each from Jiangsu, Shandong, Hubei, Sichuan and Guangxi, and 3 from Guangdong.

From 10:00 am June 1 to 10:00 am June 2, China also reported 9 new suspected cases, including 6 from Beijing and 1 each from Shanxi, Guangdong and Shaanxi.

From 10:00 am June 1 to 10:00 am June 2, China also reported 26 misdiagnosed suspected cases, of which 11 were from Beijing, 5 from Guangdong, 4 from Shanxi, 2 from Henan, 1 each from Tianjin, Hebei, Inner Mongolia and Heilongjiang. By 10:00 am June 2, China had a total of 965 suspected cases.

From 10:00 am May 14 to 10:00 am June 2, 12 provinces reported a total of 370 diagnosed SARS cases, which included 254 from Beijing, 42 from Hebei, 23 from Shanxi, 15 from Inner Mongolia, 11 from Tianjin, 8 from Guangdong, 6 from Jilin, 4 from Sichuan, 3 from Liaoning, 2 from Guangxi, 1 each from Shanghai and Hubei. Now 1,499 patients are receiving treatment in hospitals.

According to the related statistics standards of the WHO, by 10:00 am June 2, 12 provinces had reported SARS cases. Tianjin, Jilin, Guangdong, Guangxi, Hubei, Shanghai and Sichuan had reported no new diagnosed case for more than 10 days; Liaoning had reported no new diagnosed case for 9 days; and Shanxi and Inner Mongolia had reported no new diagnosed case for 7 days.
