5 killed in NW China Quarry Explosion
Adjust font size:

Five workers were killed Saturday in an unexpected explosion at a quarry in northwest China's Shaanxi Province, government officials said.

The accident took place at 00:21 A.M. when the workers were loading dynamite at Hengan Quarry in Sigou village, Shanyang County.

Local police have blocked the quarry for fear of further explosions that might be caused by residual dynamite.

Police have also detained the owner of the quarry as well as technicians for questioning.

Investigation into the cause of the accident is under way.
