NTC leader tours besieged Gaddafi birthplace

Libyan National Transitional Council (NTC) Chairman Mustafa Abdel-Jalil Tuesday paid a visit to Sirte, the besieged hometown of fallen leader Muammar Gaddafi some 360 km east of Tripoli.
Jalil spent about two hours in the Mediterranean city where the NTC forces were still fighting fierce battles with Gaddafi loyalists.
Speaking to some 200 fighters whom he called "revolutionary brothers" outside the heavily damaged Ouagadougou conference center, the interim leader offered them the "support of all the members" of his council.
The downtown structure was recently captured after heavy fighting.
Jalil told reporters during the tour that the NTC still needs two more days to fully control Sirte, where the toughest battles were fought with remnants of the fallen regime.
The NTC said Tuesday they have seized the police headquarters in Sirte after monthlong fighting, and they also believed Gaddafi's son Mo'tassim was hiding out in the besieged city.
