Hu, Medvedev hold talks on cooperation

Visiting Chinese President Hu Jintao and his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev met in Moscow Thursday for talks on deepening the China-Russia strategic partnership of cooperation.
The two leaders are also expected to discuss major world and regional issues of common interest during the meeting, their second this year.
Hu is scheduled to meet Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin later in the day.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the signing of the China-Russia Treaty of Good-Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation, and also the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the China-Russia strategic and cooperative partnership.
In a written interview with Russian media on the eve of his current trip, Hu said, "With President Medvedev and Prime Minister Putin, I will review the achievements and experience of the bilateral relationship's development over the past decade and set goals for the ties in the next decade by mapping out the cooperation outline in various sectors."
Hu added that the China-Russia strategic partnership of cooperation will be brought to new levels in the next 10 years through joint efforts, saying that the relationship will make more achievements, bring more benefits to the two peoples, and make its due contribution to global and regional peace, security and stability.
"It is my belief that this Russia tour will bring fresh vigor to the sustained, healthy and stable development of the China-Russia strategic partnership of cooperation in the second decade of the century," he said.
In the past decade, the development of China-Russia ties has made remarkable progress. Political and strategic mutual trust between the two nations have deepened continuously. The two sides have established mechanisms for high-level exchange of visits and all-round cooperation.

The two nations have become each other's major trading partners, and have worked closely together in dealing with major world and regional affairs.
Two months ago, the Chinese and Russian presidents met for their first meeting this year on the sidelines of a BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) summit in the southern Chinese beach resort of Sanya, and the two leaders agreed to further improve cooperation and safeguard common interests.
Hu flew in from Astana Wednesday after concluding a visit to Kazakhstan and attending a Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit there.
From Moscow, Hu will travel to St. Petersburg to attend the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. He is expected to deliver a speech at the forum.
