There's nothing new about the Group of Eight (G8) summit this year, said Kim Carstensen, Leader of WWF Global Climate Initiative, on Sunday.

"We're disappointed about the G8," said Carstensen in an exclusive interview by Xinhua News Agency at the G8/G20 media center.

Carstensen said the G8 summit was "very much precisely the same as last year, nothing new."

"We're quite critical on the Canadian host because we haven't seen issues like climate change, energy really come into the agenda (of G8 summit)," he said.

Carstensen said it is his wish that the Group of 20 (G20) countries will contribute more to the protection of environment. He praised the new energy policy announced by India on Saturday and urged other countries to follow India's example.

India announced it was making some serious reforms on fossil fuels that included the phasing out of subsidies on petrol, diesel, kerosene, and natural gas on Saturday.

The G20 Summit opened on Saturday in Toronto and will close later Sunday.
