Chilean companies assure food, drink supply

Major supplying companies in Chile said Tuesday there are enough foods and drinks to supply to the public who are struggling in the aftermath of the 8.8-magnitude earthquake which rattled the South American country early Saturday morning.
The Trade Union Association of the Supplier Industries (AGIP) said "main suppliers in the country have necessary reserves and conditions to meet all the national demands."
AGIP president Vasco Costa said they have launched contingent plans to directly deliver foods according to special needs of each regions.
Costa said most of the companies are in direct contact with main supermarkets which have necessary conditions to receive emergency goods.
"This means that there is a great organization to guarantee the distribution of products for people's needs," Costa said.
However, there are some regions in the country where the suppliers failed to reach due to shortage of fuel and difficulties in transportation, Costa said.
"We believe that the government will speed up and guarantee the basic supplies to be distributed across the country for the well-being of all the people," Costa added.
Meanwhile, a group of 27 Cuban doctors from the brigade "Henry Reeve" traveled to Chile to assist local victims. The brigade brought tents and medical equipment, which will be sent to regions in need by two Cuban planes.
