Moscow is concerned with the U.S. and some other Western countries' intentions to support Syria's opposition, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Wednesday.
"We are concerned with that situation, especially taking into account the public statements that the U.S. administration and some other Western partners are going to supply arms to the opposition groups in Syria," ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich told reporters during a news briefing.
The diplomat slashed the Western intention of supplying the Syrian opposition with "non-lethal assistance," saying "this is absolutely not what is needed."
Meanwhile, Moscow expects the United States to implement unconditionally the decisions made during the Geneva meeting last June, said the spokesman.
"We believe this ground has no alternative. We consider any attempts to provide the opposition with arms, money and other materials highly dangerous and contradictory to the interests of political settlement," Lukashevich noted.
After a so-called Friends of Syria conference in Rome last Thursday, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said the United States has stepped up support for the Syrian opposition with additional 60 million U.S. dollars in "non-lethal" assistance.
