Armed groups fired two mortar shells at the Syrian Information Ministry in the upscale district of al-Mazzeh in the capital Damascus on Tuesday morning, causing material damages, the pro-government al-Ekhbariah TV said.
The mortar firing has become increasingly common lately, particularly in al-Mazzeh sprawling district, owing to its location near the hotspots of Daraya and Kafar Souseh orchards, both scenes of recent fighting between the government troops and the armed rebels.
A day earlier, four mortars struck several parts of al-Mazzeh but caused only material damages. The Syrian troops waged wide- scale operations in the nearby Daraya and Kafar Souseh area in the hope of rooting out rampant insurgency once and for all.
The armed rebels seem to have been firing the mortars randomly to respond to the Syrian troops' systematic operations. But they seem not to be taking into consideration the lives that might be taken by their indiscriminate firing.
