Japan opposes China's continental shelf boundary

The Japanese government decided on Sep. 22 to appeal against China's bid to the United Nations (UN) regarding the continental shelf boundary mapping in the East China Sea, Tokyo based Chinese-Japanese news website Jnocnews.jp reported on Sunday.
According to the Yoshihiko Noda cabinet, the continental shelf boundary mapping in the East China Sea and several other maritime areas, soon to be proposed to the UN Commission on the Limits of Continental Shelf (CLCS) by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is invalid because there is no consensus on this boundary among China’s neighboring countries.
The Japanese government appealed for a UN refusal of China’s proposal in accordance with the "UN Convention on the Law of the Sea," which regulates the continental shelf boundary drawn by a country can only be validated when consented upon by the rest of its adjacent countries.
