Kum Song School of Music was founded in 1966 and became a special art school in 1982. The school selects students that are talented in arts from all parts of the country.

After taking years of intensive training classes, a number of graduates will enter professional art performance organizations including the prestigious Moranbong Band.

From 2001, Kum Song added computer education to the course to foster specialists in computer programming.
