NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen on Sunday said the alliance has no intention to intervene in Syria, and he believes the best way to go forward in that country is the Annan plan.

Speaking after heads of state and government of the alliance met for the first day of the NATO summit, Rasmussen said NATO is " very much concerned" about the Syrian situation, but the alliance has "no intention whatsoever to intervene in Syria."

Rasmussen said he believes the best platform for finding a solution in Syria is the Annan plan, but NATO "strongly regret" that it seems the Syrian leadership "does not comply with the Annan plan."

The NATO chief urged Syria's leadership to accommodate " different aspiration of the Syrian people."
