A Chinese national has been reportedly missing for nearly 10 days in Surigao del Norte of southern Philippines, police said Friday.

Caraga regional police spokesman Martin Gamba said an unnamed administration officer of Shenzhou Mining Corporation based in Cagdianao village in Claver town reported the disappearance of 41- year-old Rui Lei.

Gamba said the mining firm went to the Claver police station on April 17 to report that Lei has been missing since April 11. He said probers from the Claver police station "are still conducting follow-up investigation in the case."

"Accordingly, in the afternoon of April 11, Lei allegedly went to Surigao City to visit his friends on board a passenger van but according to his friends in Surigao City, Lei never arrived there," said Gamba.

"Lei's Chinese friends tried to call and locate his whereabouts but no positive information as of this report," Gamba added.
