At least six soldiers were killed in a clash on Saturday with rebels of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), a military source said.
In an interview with Caracol Radio, Gen. Hernan Giraldo, commander of the seventh Army division, said the FARC guerrillas "intended to do terrorist acts" on a road linking the cities of Choco and Antioquia in northwest Colombia.
An ensuing confrontation resulted in the death of six soldiers who were killed by the rebels using explosives.
Giraldo also said at least three FARC members were killed and two others wounded in the clash.
