A tanker and a bus on Thursday collided on the main road linking the Venezuela capital of Caracas with Los Teques, a southwestern suburb located in Miranda state, killing at least 14 people and injuring indefinite number of others, local authorities said.

The collision occurred at about 14:15 p.m. local time (18:15 GMT) at kilometer 3 of Pan-American Highway.

Luis Diaz Curbelo, director of the National Civil Protection, said that a large fire happened after the collision due to the tanker fuel's ignition, affecting at least 10 vehicles which circulated through the highway.

Diaz told state-owned Venezuelan Television that it is difficult to define the number of injured people because many of the people affected were helped by those who circulated near, who took them to hospitals immediately after the accident.

Civil Protection authorities, as well as Caracas' Firefighters and Bolivarian National Police have arrived in the accident's site to help the rescue work.

Local media also reported that as a consequence of the collision, the tanker turned over and a fuel leak occurred, causing the fire.
