Officials at Yemeni Vice President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi's office said Tuesday that an interim reconciliation government would be formed within 24 hours.
"The new cabinet will be declared tomorrow evening (Wednesday)," two officials at Hadi's office told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
The cabinet with equal participation of the opposition and ruling party will be led by Prime Minister Mohamed Basindwa, an opposition leader who was nominated to head the new government in line with a Gulf-brokered deal signed by outgoing President Ali Abdullah Saleh in late last month.
Meanwhile, the capital Sanaa and southern province of Taiz witnessed Tuesday a relative calm following clashes between government forces and opposition militants, as part of the troops have already been pulled out of the streets of Taiz city, the country's second largest city, according to witnesses.
A government official said "the rival forces will be completely withdrawn from Taiz on Wednesday."
Yemen has been gripped by political crisis since late January when protests demanding an end to Saleh's 33-year rule erupted.
The opposition coalition and the ruling party agreed on Nov. 23 on the GCC deal designed to end the 11-month-long turmoil. According to the power-transfer deal, early presidential elections were set for Feb. 21, 2012, and Saleh will retain a title of honorary president for 90 days before resignation and enjoy immunity from prosecution.
