Violence against women in Afghanistan is on the rise despite government efforts to protect women rights. More than 2,290 cases of violence against women including forced marriages, under-aged marriages, beating by in-laws and family members had been registered in 2010, according to Afghan Human Rights Commission.
In some countryside and villages held by Taliban militants, some women have even been stoned to death by the insurgents over the past couple of years.
