An earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale on Friday hit north Japan's Kamikawa-chiho Chubu in Hokkaido, said the Japan Meteorological Agency.
The epicenter, with a depth of 190 km, was initially determined to be at 43.8 degrees north latitude and 142.6 degrees east longitude.
No immediate tsunami alert was issued. So far no damage and casualties have been reported.
