The White House said on Monday that terror threat around the 9/11 anniversary was not "useless chatter," and U.S. authorities continued to pursue the leads and remain vigilant.

White House Spokesman Jay Carney said in his regular briefing that the intelligence about the threat is "specific, credible," and that was why federal authorities took actions and alerted law enforcement agencies around the country.

The threat was not "useless chatter," said Carney.

U.S. officials last Thursday said that there was a terror threat around the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, and terrorists were targeting New York and Washington D.C. Law enforcement agencies in the two cities and federal authorities visibly raised security level in the weekend.

Carney said the administration was relieved that the anniversary went by without incident, but authorities were "very focused on pulling all the threads on that threat and chasing it down," while remains vigilant against possible threats.
