Nafissatou Diallo addressed the media at the Christian Cultural Center in Brooklyn, New York. She gave a three-minute statement and took no questions.

"I'm here because I hear people call me a lot of bad names. A lot of things people say about me is not true," she said.

"Me and my family, we are going through a lot," she said. "We're crying every day. We can't sleep." "What happened to me, I don't want that to happen to any other woman," she added.

The Manhattan District Attorney's office is currently weighing whether to drop the seven-count indictment against Strauss-Kahn. Prosecutors acknowledged that there were significant credibility issues with the hotel maid.

Strauss-Kahn was released from house arrest on July 1. His next court date is Aug. 23.
