The party of Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood, currently the country's most organized group, reiterated on Sunday the party would not run for the coming presidential elections.
Mohamed Saad al-Katatni, secretary general of the Freedom and Justice Party made the statement to deny the rumors that it was willing to nominate someone for presidency, official MENA news agency reported.
The Egyptian Committee of Party Affairs approved in June the formation of the party founded by the Muslim Brotherhood movement. The Muslim Brotherhood, one of Egypt's most powerful political forces, aims to contest up to half of the parliamentary seats in the elections.
The parliamentary vote is expected to begin in the second half of November. The People's Assembly and Shoura Council elections will be held at the same time.
