China lodges solemn representations on Obama-Dalai meeting
Vice Chinese Foreign Minister Cui Tiankai made an urgent summon to Robert S. Wang, Charge d'Affaires of U.S. embassy in Beijing, to lodge solemn representations on U.S. arrangement of President Barack Obama's meeting with the Dalai Lama, a press release from the Chinese Foreign Ministry said.
According to the press release issued early Sunday morning, Chinese ambassador to the United States Zhang Yesui also lodged representations to the U.S. side in Washington DC.
China pointed out that the U.S. obstinate arrangement of President Obama's meeting with the Dalai Lama in the White House has seriously interfered in China's internal affairs, hurt the feelings of the Chinese people, undermined China's key interests and damaged the Sino-American relations, said the press release, voicing China's strong indignation and stern objection to the meeting.
The Chinese side stressed that Tibet is an inseparable part of China and the issue about Tibet concerns exclusively to China's internal affairs. The Chinese government and people are firmly determined to safeguard the country's key interests and national dignity, said the press release.
According the press release, the Chinese side pointed out that fostering a sound and developing China-U.S. relations needs the concerted efforts from both sides. China requested the United States to seriously consider China's stance, honor its commitment that recognizes Tibet as part of China and opposes 'Tibet independence', take measures to wipe out the baneful impact, and regain the trust from the Chinese government and people with its concrete actions.
