Chinese Defense Minister Liang Guanglie will lead a delegation to attend the 10th International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) Asian Security Summit, also known as the Shangri-La Dialogue, in Singapore from June 3 to 5, according to a Defense Ministry spokesman.
"This will be the first time for a Chinese defense minister to attend the Shangri-La Dialogue, and the rank of the delegation is also unprecedented," said Defense Ministry spokesman Geng Yansheng at a monthly press conference.
During the meeting, Liang will deliver a speech to introduce China's defense policies and practices, according to the spokesman. He will also meet with senior military officials from other countries, said Geng.
China has always participated in regional security cooperation in a sincere, candid and constructive manner, said Geng.
He said China attaches great importance to multilateral dialogue mechanisms like the Shangri-La Dialogue, which is organized by the London-based International Institute for Strategic Studies.
China will take the advantage of the dialogue to strengthen mutual trust and cooperation with relevant parties in an effort to promote cooperation and stability in the Asia-Pacific region, he added.
