Ten people were killed and 28 others injured when a vehicle struck a roadside bomb on Tuesday in Afghanistan's southern province of Kandahar, director of provincial health department said.
"A total of 10 dead and 28 injured people were admitted to hospital in the provincial capital of Kandahar city Tuesday morning," Abdul Qayum Pukhla told Xinhua.
He said all the victims were local workers, adding some injured men were in critical conditions.
"A mini-truck was carrying workers of a development project in Panjwayi district at around 9:30 a.m. local time but it run over a roadside bomb triggering a powerful blast that killed at least 10 people and injuring over 30 others," a police officer told Xinhua.
However, one of two locals who received no injuries in the incident told Xinhua that some 45 people were on board when the vehicle hit the bomb.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far but Taliban militants have been behind most suicide and roadside bomb attacks across the war-ravaged country.
Taliban-led insurgency has been rampant since the militant group launched on April 30 spring offensive against Afghan and NATO-led international forces.
The die-hard insurgents have warned the civilians to keep away from official gatherings, military convoys and centers because they are the legitimate target of their attacks.
The insurgents raided a road construction site in eastern Paktia province on Thursday May 19, killing 35 workers and injured 24 others.
