Egyptian former president Hosni Mubarak and his wife Suzanne Thabet would be investigated over accumulated illegal wealth, state media said Thursday.
A team of investigators from the Illicit Gains Authority went Thursday to Sharm el-Sheikh to question the ex-president and his wife, Assistant Justice Minister Essam el-Gohari said, according to official news agency MENA.
They faced charges of misusing presidential influences to gain more funds which don't match their legal income. An official statement will be announced after the investigations.
Mubarak and his two sons were ordered on April 13 to be put under custody for 15 days. They also faced accusations of killing protesters. The former president's detention was prolonged for 15 days on May 10.
Mubarak was forced to resign on Feb. 11 after 18 days of mass protests against his 30-year rule. He is now in a hospital in Egypt's Red Sea resort Sharm El Sheikh.
