Continued Taliban-led militancy and conflicts in the insurgency-hit Afghanistan have claimed the lives of 487 people including 325 Taliban insurgents, 83 civilians and 79 policemen over the past month, spokesman of Interior Ministry Zamarai Bashari said on Sunday.
"As many as 440 subversive and terrorist activities including insurgent direct attack, suicide bombing and Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosions have been registered in month Hamal or first month in Afghan calendar," Bashari told reporters in a weekly press conference here.
These casualties have been reported from March 21 till April 20, he further said.
According to Bashari, a total of 260 civilians, 207 police personnel as well as 65 militants have also been injured over the mentioned period.
He also said some 767 more Taliban insurgents and other anti- government militants had been arrested by police.
Police also found and defused a total of 749 IEDs and roadside bombs throughout the country in the same time table, besides seizing of 477 weapons, he said.
Briefing reporters on security development, the official of interior ministry said the training and equipping of local police forces or community police, set up last August to defend their villages against insurgents threats, has been on track and a total of 5,000 local police force had been deployed in 28 districts out of 364 districts throughout the country.
He also said police and special counter-narcotics police forces have discovered and destroyed more than 14,400 kg of narcotics and chemical precursors for producing heroin all over the country in the same period of time.
