A strong tornado on Friday struck the Lambert Airport in St. Louis, causing injuries of several people and damage to the airport.
The airport was closed Friday after storms ripped the roof off one concourse, shattered windows in the concourse and damaged cars parked at the airport. Several people was injured by the bursted glass, reported the local media stltoday.com.
However, it remained unclear if any planes were affected, or if any flights were delayed or canceled.
Airport spokesman Jeff Lea said airport managers were assessing the damage and Mayor Francis G. Slay also went to inspect the site.
The tornado was part of a series of strong storms that struck central and eastern Missouri. Unconfirmed tornadoes were reported in several counties in the St. Louis area.
