Int'l observers team up ahead of Nigeria's presidential election

More than 1,000 international observers have arrived in Nigeria to monitor the country's presidential election on Saturday.
The observers are from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the European Union (EU), the African Union (AU) and some other international organizations.
Amos Sawyer, head of the ECOWAS mission said he has consulted with Alojz Peterle, the EU's chief observer, to learn from the experiences of the EU mission, which has been working on the ground long before the election.
"We want to learn from their lessons on what they have observed so far and see how we can improve on our own," Sawyer told reporters.
Sawyer, who is leading a 300-member team, said that his members have already been deployed to local voting zones and that the poll will be properly observed.
Similarly, Peterle urged Nigerians to turn out and vote, while expressing the hope that the election will be conducted peacefully.
The ECOWAS mission is also expected to meet with other groups to discuss how to carry out proper observation.
