Iran's Judiciary Spokesman Gholam- Hossein Mohseni-Ejei denied on Wednesday the arrest of opposition leaders, the local Mehr news agency reported.

Mir-Hossein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi "are at their homes but there are some restrictions" imposed on them, Mohseni-Ejei was quoted as saying.

On Monday evening, the opposition website of Kaleme claimed that Mousavi and Karroubi had been jailed but the Semi-official Fars news agency rejected the claim, quoting a judicial official.

The Iranian security forces clashed with the opposition supporters and fired tear gas at them in Tehran on Tuesday, the opposition website Kaleme reported on the day.

The government denied that major clashes took place between the security forces and the protesters in Tehran.

On Wednesday, Iran's opposition website, Shamsnews, said at least 79 people were arrested in the protests in Isfahan and Tehran on Tuesday, which was also denied by Iran's judiciary.
