Forty civilians were killed in Afghanistan in the past week, an official said on Sunday.
"Forty civilians had been killed in militants' attacks and subversive activities over the past one week in the country," spokesman for the Interior Ministry Zamarai Bashari told newsmen at a press conference here.
He also added that 105 more civilians had been injured over the mentioned period.
The civilian casualties this time indicates a 24 percent increase compared to the previous week, Bashari said, adding in the previous week 30 civilians had lost their lives in militancy and violent incidents throughout the country.
Over the past one week, counted from Feb. 13 until Feb. 19, according to Bashari, 59 terrorist attacks including suicide and roadside bombings had been registered across the country.
Thirty six policemen had been killed and 46 others got injured over the period, he asserted.
Bashari also added that 68 militants had been killed and 13 others sustained injuries in clash with security forces over the past one week.
