U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Wednesday urged Egyptian Vice President Omar Suleiman to probe the violence on Cairo streets and hold accountable those responsible for violence.
Clinton spoke with Egypt's newly-appointed vice president to show U.S. condemnation of the street violence and urged the Middle East country to hold those responsible fully accountable, said U.S. State Department spokesman Philip Crowley.
Supporters of embattled Mubarak rallied Tuesday morning, who later clashed with protesters against the president while they marched towards Tahrir Square.
The White House said on Wednesday that the United States was " deeply concerned" about attacks on the "media and peaceful demonstrators," repeating its "strong call" for restraint.
