Kidnapped Chinese-Filipino student rescued

A 21-year old Chinese-Filipino student who was kidnapped by suspected Abu Sayyaf terror group was rescued Wednesday evening in southern Philippines, police said Thursday.

Sulu Provincial Police Office said that Kenn Klefford Lao, who was seized in Jolo, Sulu on October 7, was rescued in Kabbon sub- village, Langhob village in Patikul town near the boundary of Indanan town in the same province at around 8:45 p.m..

Police said that concerned citizen reported sighting of the victim and authorities in the province immediately rushed to the area.

Surprised suspects withdrew without firefight while the victim managed to run towards the police.

Lao is now in the Sulu police headquarters for medical check and for turning over to his family.

Lao, a first-year college student of Notre Dame of Jolo College, went out to meet a friend in Jolo before he went missing.
