A seminar on implementing international conventions on human rights was held here Wednesday, drawing Vietnamese government officials and representatives from the Australian Agency for International Development.
The seminar was part of the Vietnam-Australia Human Rights Technical Cooperation Program which started in 2006.
Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son said at the seminar that Vietnam appreciated Australian efforts in promoting the international convention on human rights.
Son said Vietnam attaches great importance to implementing international conventions on human rights in order to demonstrate Vietnam's attitude towards human right issues.
Vanessa Wood, Deputy Head of the Australian Embassy to Vietnam said that the seminar provided a chance for representatives to share information and experience in human right issues, thus strengthening cooperation to further ensure people's fundamental rights.
Representatives at the seminar held discussions on various topics including democracy and human rights in international relations, Vietnamese government's policy on human rights, Vietnam 's participation on international conventions on human rights, international mechanisms on human rights and the role of mass media on promoting and protecting human rights.
