23 students, 1 teacher held hostage in Wisconsin high school

An armed student has been holding 23 students and 1 teacher in a high school classroom since Monday afternoon in Marinette, Wisconsin, police said. No injuries have been reported as of Monday evening.

Police said 23 students were being taken hostage in the classroom with one teacher, and police has known the identity of the suspect and have contacted the suspect's family. There have been no reports of shooting so far.

Local police received a call just before 4. p.m., saying an armed student has burst into a classroom and taken hostage at Marinette High School, according to an emergency management official in Wisconsin.

Marinette County Emergency Management said in a news release that police are on the scene and no injuries have been reported at this time. The number of people in the classroom remains unclear.

Parents are being asked to go to the county courthouse, dozens of students and family members had gathered at a hair salon near the school, waiting for the development, according to local media.

The high school website said it enrolls approximately 800 students every year.
