Two militants were killed in a fierce gunfight with Indian army in Indian-controlled Kashmir, police Sunday said.
The gunfight broke out Saturday evening in the forests of in Zachaldar-Handwara of frontier district of Kupwara district, around 105 km northwest of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.
"Two militants were killed Saturday evening during a gunfight in Mouladarigali area in Zachaldar forests. The operation was carried out on intelligence inputs. No sooner the contact with the militants was established, a fierce gunfight broke out resulting in killing of the duo," said a police official.
The identity of slain militants is being ascertained.
Police said the army did not suffered any damage in the gunfight.
The gun fighting between militants and Indian troopers in Indian-controlled Kashmir takes place intermittently.
On Thursday three militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militant outfit were killed in the forests of Surankote in Poonch district, 250 km northwest of Jammu, the winter capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.
