Burkina Faso holds presidential election

Burkina Fasio holds the presidential election on Sunday, with seven candidates fielded in the race for the top post of the West African country.

According to the electoral commission, the vote will run to 6 p. m. (1800 GMT) from 6 a.m. (0600 GMT).

Outgoing President Blaise Compaore, 59, is widely expected to win another five-year term in the election, in which contenders also include Benewende Stanislas Sankara, Pargui Emile Pare, Boukary Kabore, Hama Arba Diallo, Ouampoussoga Francois Kabore and Maxime Kabore.

Out of Burkina Faso's 14 million population, around 4 million have been registered as eligible voters to choose the presidency.

Burkina Faso won independence from France in 1960.
