President-elect of Tanzania's Zanzibar sworn in

President-elect of Tanzania's Zanzibar Ali Mohamed Shein was sworn in on Wednesday at Stone Town in an occasion attended by a number of government officials and foreign diplomats.

Shein was sworn in at Amaan Stadium by the outgoing President of Zanzibar Amani Abeid Karume.

Shein, 62, Tanzania's former vice-president, is widely respected in Zanzibar. He was thrown into the national political spotlight after being appointed Tanzania's vice-president in 2001.
