Chinese navy hospital ship finishes visit to Tanzania

The Chinese navy hospital ship Peace Ark on Sunday left Dar es Salaam after a five-day successful visit to Tanzania, which aims to deepen the traditional friendship of China and Tanzania, strengthen the bilateral military cooperation, and increase the people to people exchanges.

During the visit, Chinese military doctors aboard the ship made medical services to Tanzanian soldiers and military officers, local citizens, Chinese community in Tanzania, as well as some foreign envoys to Tanzania.

They also did some medical operations on patients with cataract disease, thanks to the cooperation with the Tanzanian military doctors.

Major General Bao Yuping, commander of the Peace Ark, and his delegation also held friendly talks with Tanzanian Minister of Defense and National Service Hussein Ali Mwinyi, Tanzanian Chief of Defense Forces General Davis Mwamunyange, Tanzania Peoples' Defense Forces (TPDF) Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Abdulrahman Shimbo and Tanzanian Navy Commander Major General Said Omar on bilateral relations of the two nations and the two armed forces.

On Tuesday, the Peace Ark arrived at Dar es Salaam, the third leg of the "Mission Harmony 2010". The ship had previously visited Djibouti and Mombasa, Kenya. It will go on to the Seychelles and Bangladesh during the trip.

As the first hospital ship in the world with a 10,000-ton capacity, the Peace Ark set sail from Zhejiang province in east China on Aug. 31. The navy hospital ship was independently built by China with 428 soldiers, officers and medical workers on board.
