Syrian President Bashar al-Assad met with visiting Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri Wednesday on Lebanon's political crisis, Syria's official SANA news agency reported.
Berri who arrived in Damascus on Tuesday said he wants all parties in Lebanon to reach a consensus on the issue of "false witnesses."
He also hailed Syria's role in keeping stability in Lebanon and boosting bilateral relations between the two countries, SANA said.
On July, Assad accompanied his Saudi counterpart Kind Abdullah bin Abdul-Aziz in a landmark visit to Lebanon, in a bid to ease the sour tension among the Lebanese powers there.
Tension among the Lebanese parties escalated following reports that the Special Tribunal for Lebanon would soon implicate Hezbollah in the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.
