Typhoon hits Philippines, flights canceled

Flights bound for northern Philippines were canceled on Monday as typhoon Megi continue to lash heavy rains, causing flash floods and forcing thousands of people to evacuate.
Ness Constante, communication officer of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, told local radio station that domestic airlines, Air Philippines and Cebu Pacific, have temporarily call off their flights due to the typhoon.
Local forecasters said the typhoon changed course slightly overnight and it is expected to make landfall before noon in northern Isabela province instead of Cagayan.
In areas affected by typhoon Megi, classes were suspended on Monday, said Benito Ramos, an official of the country's National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Committee.
