A man barricaded himself in a restaurant in Sun Valley, Los Angeles on Monday, setting off a standoff with sharpshooters and bomb squad members, authorities said.

Police were called to the restaurant at Pendleton Street and Lankershim Boulevard about 4:20 p.m. local time, said Officer Rosario Herrera of the Los Angeles Police Department.

About 7 p.m., the man with a gun was still believed to be inside, but it was not clear if there were any hostages, Herrera said.

It is also not clear why he started the baricade situation, Herrera said.
