Two Chinese workers abducted in southwest Nigeria's Ogun state on Thursday evening were successfully rescued by police, an official of the Chinese Consulate in Lagos said on Friday.
The two Chinese are in stable condition, the official told Xinhua, adding that three kidnappers were also arrested by the Nigerian police force.
The two Chinese were rescued at around 1.a.m. local time (0000 GMT) on Friday.
Security sources told Xinhua that the Chinese Consulate has lodged a formal complaint with the state government and the police authorities, shortly after the Chinese were taken hostage.
"The kidnappers allowed the Chinese to make phone calls in order to get ransom from their employers, so we took up the case from there," the source said.
Three of the armed gangs were arrested "after a serious gun battle," the source told Xinhua.
