Russian Emergency Situations Ministry has sent Tuesday humanitarian aid to Pakistan where the deadly floods claimed the lives of at least 1,600 people, the ministry spokesman Irina Andrianova said.
Under the President Dmitry Medvedev's order, the ministry has sent a plane to Pakistan carrying humanitarian aid for residents affected by heavy floods, Andrianova was quoted by RIA Novosti news agency as saying.
She added the plane would deliver about 36 tons of humanitarian aid including tents, blankets and diesel engines.
Pakistani monsoons caused the heaviest floods in the past 80 years, which wiped out thousands of homes. Some 20 million people are believed to have been affected by the disaster.
