Twenty-five people were drowned and another twenty-five were missing in the northeastern India's boat capsize on Wednesday evening, local media reported.

The accident occurred after an overcrowded boat was caught in a whirlpool in the swollen Kosi river of the northeastern Indian state of Bihar, the Press Trust of India quoted local police as saying.

Local rescue teams rushed to the spot. However, 25 bodies were recovered by the divers. Among the victims, three were children, local police said.

The local police said the rescue efforts for searching for the missing passengers were being intensified, but the darkness and rain were hindering the operation. The fatal accident was probably triggered by the overload, and the further detailed investigation would be launched, according the local police.
