5 killed in suicide bombing in Pakistan

At least five people, including an army officer, were killed and another 10 injured in a suicide bomb blast Wednesday afternoon near a military area in the northwest Pakistani city of Peshawar, police said.

According to police sources, a teenage suicide bomber struck the vehicle of Frontier Constabulary Commandant Sifwat Ghayoor near his office in Saddar cantonment area of Peshawar, killing the commandant and four security guards. Three vehicles were completely destroyed in the deadly attack.

Shafqat Malik, a high official of bomb disposal squad, said that the bomber was carrying eight to ten kg explosives in his suicide jacket and came on foot towards the commandant's vehicle.

The police rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area. The injured and the killed have been shifted to the Lady Ready Hospital in Peshawar. Five injured are in critical condition, hospital sources said.
