Afghan gov't shocked by leakage of U.S. military reports

The chief spokesman of Afghan President Hamid Karzai on Monday said that the Afghan government was shocked by leakage of the U.S. military reports - a huge number of classified documents of its international partners.
"We were shocked by the facts that certain numbers, the huge number of documents were leaked," Waheed Omar told a weekly press conference in Kabul.
He said that President Karzai immediate reaction was that most of these issues were discussed in the past.
"Most of these were what we have already raised with our international partners and this is going to help raising more awareness," he stated.
"These are more established facts about what the war in Afghanistan means," he further said.
"We made this clear in the past that the war on terror in Afghanistan will not succeed unless we address the root causes," Omar said.
The Afghan government has several times in the past blamed certain circles in Pakistan for supporting Taliban militants fighting in Afghanistan. Officials in Kabul say that Taliban militants have been using Pakistan's lawless tribal areas as their safe haven.
Over 90,000 pieces of documents, according to media reports, were released by WikiLeaks.org - a whistleblower website, which also pointed to the civilian casualties caused by NATO-led troops and Pakistan intelligence agency's covered link and support to Taliban militants fighting Afghan and NATO-led troops in Afghanistan.
It is one of the largest unauthorized disclosures in military history.
