At least 30 militants were killed in fresh clashes with Pakistani security forces on Wednesday in the country's northwest tribal area, local TV channel reported.

One security personnel lost his life and four were injured in the clashes in Upper Orakzai, and the army took control of Rahktaan area of the region, the private TV Express reported.

Pakistani army declared victory in the restive Orakzai agency over Taliban insurgency in June, and announced the end of the year-long offensive.

However, the fresh skirmishes have dampened home-returning hopes of some 200,000 internally displaced persons, who had fled the area after the operation was launched a year ago.

Orakzai is the only one of the seven tribal regions that does not border Afghanistan and seen as safe heaven for militants. Hundreds of militants have been killed in clashes with Pakistani troops in Orakzai in the past month.
