FM to attend meetings in Afghanistan, Vietnam

Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi will attend an international conference on Afghanistan in Kabul on July 20 and a series of foreign ministers' meetings in Hanoi, Vietnam from July 21 to 23.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang made the announcement at a regular press briefing here Thursday.

Qin said, the meetings in Vietnam will include the foreign ministers' meeting between China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the foreign ministers' meeting between ASEAN and China, Japan and the Republic of Korea.

Other meetings will include the foreign ministers' unofficial consultation of the East Asia Summit, and the foreign ministers' meeting of the 17th ASEAN Regional Forum, said Qin.

Yang was invited by Afghan Minister for Foreign Affairs Zalmay Rasoul and Pham Gia Khiem, Vietnamese deputy prime minister and minister of foreign affairs, Qin said.

ASEAN groups Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
