The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Wednesday accused South Korea of escalating confrontation with the DPRK by peddling the warship sinking incident at the international arena, the official news agency KCNA reported.
No matter how the South Korean authorities may work to confound right and wrong together with the United States, it can neither hide the truth nor escape denunciation from the public at home and abroad, said a spokesman for the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of Korea in a statement.
The spokesman said the United States that was seeking to refer the investigation results of the "Cheonan" case to the UN Security Council was aimed at expanding "the sphere of its domination and influence on Northeast Asia" and stepping up "the moves for aggression and war."
He stressed that if South Korea and the United States force the UN Security Council to smear the DPRK, the army and people of the DPRK would regard it as "an intolerable and grave infringement upon its dignity" and would not "rule out a just do-or-die battle" to protect the sovereignty of the country.
According to the KCNA, South Korean President Lee Myung-bak met with leaders of the United States, Japan and other countries to ask for "international cooperation" over the "Cheonan" case during his recent visit to Canada.
Lee also flew to Panama and Mexico to ask high-ranking officials of Central American countries for support to South Korea on the issue, the KCNA said.
