1 dead, 6 injured in Chicago overnight shootings

One was killed and at least six others were injured in separate shootings in Chicago late Saturday and early Sunday morning, Chicago Tribune reported.

About 1 a.m. in the Stony Island Park neighborhood in south suburb, a 22-year-old man was discovered shot in a backyard, police said. He was taken in critical condition to a local hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.

At 11:50 p.m. in the South Austin neighborhood in west suburb, an 18-year-old man was standing on the sidewalk with friends when a gunman approached and began firing shots, police said. The teen suffered a gunshot wound to the leg.

About 12:15 a.m. Sunday morning in the Ashburn neighborhood on the Southwest Side, a 21-year-old man riding a scooter was approached by a gunman and shot multiple times, police said. The victim was in critical condition.

At 1:45 a.m. in the South Side's South Chicago neighborhood, a 16-year-old boy suffered a graze wound above his eye, police said.

In the South Shore neighborhood in south suburb, a 39-year-old man was shot in the side of his body at about 2:40 a.m., police said.

About 3 a.m. in the West Englewood neighborhood in south suburb, a 35-year-old woman was shot at a party in the Avenue. She suffered a gunshot wound to her arm, police said.

About 10 minutes later in Englewood, a 19-year-old man was shot in the leg.

As of early Sunday morning, no one was in custody for any of the crimes.
